Self Led Short Breaks - Eastern Cairngorm Weekend

Route: If you are looking for a leisurely weekend of easy cycling, then this one isn't for you.  If, on the otherhand, you want to see some of Scotland's most spectacular mountains up close and stay in two of the best places to eat in the Highlands, then this might be the high point of your holiday!

Duration: 2 days

Total Cycling Distance: 110 miles (Average cycling distance is 55 miles per day.)

Departures: Departs any Saturday from May to September.

Price: From £138 per person sharing a double room.  This is a base price which includes 2 nights accommodation and supply of the route in both hard copy and digital form.  Optional services include accommodation on arrival night, accommodation on the final day, bike hire, supply of GPS unit.  Luggage transfer may be available depending upon group size.

Arrival Day:

Arrival in the beautiful village of Ballater on Royal Deeside and in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Once settled in your overnight accommodation, we will deliver bikes and equipment to you.

Day 1: Ballater - Archiestown (62 miles)

A long day but a great cycling route linking Deeside with Donside and then Speyside.  The route passes Kildrummy castle This is an external link. on the way over the Cabrach.  Dufftown is the centre of Scotland's Malt Whisky industry and the last leg of the day takes you to the pretty Highland village of Archiestown.

Day 2: Archiestown - Ballater (48 miles)

The return journey is shorter, but it's a roller-coaster ride on of Scotland's most dramatic mountain roads.  Passing Glenlivet Distillery This is an external link. the route arrives at Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands.  The route down to Ballater is spectacular and steep downs combine with one two short sharp ups.  Passing Corgarff Castle This is an external link. it's an unforgettable experience on one of the great bike rides in the Highlands.

Arrival & Departure

This is circular trip starting and ending in Ballater. Unfortunately there is no rail service to Ballater, but there is a regular bus service from Aberdeen. If you arrive with your own transport, we can help you make parking arrangements for the duration of your trip.
