Self Led Short Breaks - Moray & Strathspey: The East Highlands

Route: There are some very flat sections, but with a bit of climbing as you head inland.

Duration: 4 cycling days, 3-5 nights

Total Cycling Distance: 106 miles (Average cycling distance is 26 miles per day.)

Departures: 2010 tours can begin any Thursday from April to October (optional arrival Wednesday, begin cycling Thursday) 

Price: From £225 per person sharing a double room.  This is a base price which includes 3 nights accommodation and supply of the route in both hard copy and digital form.  Optional services include accommodation on arrival night, accommodation on the final day, bike hire, supply of GPS unit and luggage transfer.

Arrival Day*:

Arrival in the city of Inverness. Once settled in your overnight accommodation, we will deliver bikes and equipment to you. You can find more information on things to see and do in Inverness here.

Day 1: Inverness - Forres (34 miles)

The route leaves the capital of the Highlands and soon arrives at the village of Culloden and Culloden Battlefield This is an external link.. The route passes two of Northern Scotland's most magnificent Castles (Cawdor Castle This is an external link. and Brodie Castle This is an external link.) either side of the town of Nairn.

Day 2: Forres - Archiestown (30 miles)

Crossing the hills between the Laich of Moray and Strathspey, Day Two is not the longest cycle, but does involve some climbing. The route passes Pluscarden Abbey This is an external link., a monastery originally founded in 1230. The Benedictine Monks actively encourage visitors and the Abbey is a fascinating stop. The route then passes Cardhu Distillery This is an external link. and Archiestown before arriving at Craigellachie.

Day 3: Archiestown - Nairn (38 miles)

The route from Archiestown heads north through the Glen of Rothes, passing Glen Grant This is an external link. distillery and joining minor roads passing the edge of Elgin, the areas largest town. From Elgin the route starts its journey back towards Inverness. Following the National cycle Network once again, the route passes through Forres on the way to Nairn.

Day 4: Nairn - Inverness (21 miles)

From Nairn we head west again back to Inverness. A slightly shorter day of cycling, but plenty to see. The route passes the historic military barracks at Fort George This is an external link. and then the battlefield at Culloden before arriving back in the city of Inverness.

Arrival in Inverness

Inverness has a direct rail link to Glasgow and Edinburgh (journey time of approximately 3 hours 30 mins) and an international airport. Nairn has a direct rail link back to Inverness. If you arrive with your own transport we can help you make parking arrangements for the duration of your trip.
