Self Led Short Breaks - Pitlochry & The Tay Forest Park

Route: A large flat section combined with the challenge of one major climb.

Duration: 4 nights, 3 cycling days

Total Cycling Distance: 81 miles (Average cycling distance is 27 miles per day.)

Departures: 2010 tours can begin every Monday from April to October (optional arrival Sunday, start cycling Monday).

Price: From £149 per person sharing a double room.  This is a base price which includes 2 nights accommodation and supply of the route in both hard copy and digital form.  Optional services include accommodation on arrival night, accommodation on the final day, bike hire, supply of GPS unit and luggage transfer.

A short tour featuring some of the best scenery in central Scotland, taking in Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch and Loch Tay. This is a circular tour that begins and ends in Pitlochry.

 

Arrival Day*:

Arrival in the town of Pitlochry in central Scotland. Once settled in your overnight accommodation, we will deliver bikes and equipment to you.

Day 1: Pitlochry - Rannoch Moor (30 miles)

Pitlochry, on the River Tummel is a small but busy holiday town that provides a gateway to the Highlands. You will leave the town to follow the river along minor roads that lead to Loch Tummel, famed for its spectacular views. The route follows the south side of the loch to reach Tummel Bridge, from where it is a further 7 mile cycle to Kinloch Rannoch on the banks of Loch Rannoch. It's along the loch to reach Rannoch Moor, a beautifully isolated spot in the very heart of Scotland.

Day 2: Kinloch Rannoch - Kenmore (29 miles)

Loch Rannoch is one of the best spots for Leisure cycling anywhere in Scotland. Unfortunately a trip along the loch is not on our itinerary, but if you feel inclined you will find a warm-up cycle along the lochside is heartily recommended. The route heads east again, taking the minor road up through Tay Forest Park, before passing the Glengoulandie Deer Park. It's then down the hill to the village of Kenmore on the edge of Loch Tay.  If you arrive with some time to spare, a visit to the Scottish Crannog Centre This is an external link. is recommended.

Day 3: Kenmore - Pitlochry (22 miles)

Following the National Cycle Network throughout the day, the route leaves the shores of Loch Tay on the way to the village of Aberfeldy. Following the banks of the River Tay then eventually the River Tummel, the day ends back in Pitlochry.

Arrival & Departure

This is circular trip beginning and ending in Pitlochry in the heart of Scotland. Pitlochry is served by rail services from Glasgow and Edinburgh (journey time of approximately 1 hour and 40 mins). If you are arriving by air, flying to Glasgow or Edinburgh is probably the best bet. If you arrive with your own transport we can help you arrange parking for the duration of your trip.
