Ballater is wonderful base for cycling. It has a growing reputation as a mountainbiking centre, but there are few if any places we know that offer the range of road cycling that is on the doorstep. The village is in the Dee Valley and is probably best known as the holiday destination of the UK's royal family - Balmoral Castle is just a few miles away.
Being in the Dee Valley means that roads heading directly east (in the direction of Aberdeen) offer relatively flat cycling following the bank of the River Dee on its 42 mile journey to the sea. On the other hand, Ballater also sits directly between the ski stations at Glenshee and the Lecht, so if you want to do some serious climbing, you wont be disappointed. There is also everything else in between, Aberdeenshire has plenty of rolling hills and hundreds of miles of empty roads.
We supply a GPS to your group and a range of routes from 30 miles to 120 miles. Its entirely up to you how much cycling you do. We work closely with a local mountainbike business and, if you fancy trying something different for a day, we would be delighted to help you get out onto the mountain tracks (with or without a guide).
